Hi, I’m Adam. I’m 53 years old now and I had my first seizure 4 years ago – I was the victim in a child-abuse case from late 70s/early 80s (it had taken me until 2017 to go to the police) and the stress of the thought of testifying in court triggered my first seizure. Well, we’ll never know if that was the cause, but it seems likely as none of the tests revealed anything physically wrong. I remember being really angry when I finally accepted I had epilepsy (only recently), why has this happened to me? I don’t smoke or do drugs, I drink less than the NHS target, it just feels so unfair…but then there are far worse things to have!
I’m really lucky in that my seizures aren’t that frequent and have only happened whilst I’m asleep. I am also blessed with a loving and supporting partner who puts up with me when I’m grumpy, she accepted the fact I was epileptic whilst I was thoroughly still in denial.
I am hoping that through this course I’ll get a better understanding of what triggers seizures and that will help me to manage them and minimise their occurrence.
