Hi,
I was diagnosed approximately 30 years ago when I was about 16. I was apparently found wondering around the house confused when I should have been on the college bus. A couple of days later I had another on the hard kitchen floor and knocked out my front teeth. I was diagnosed with Epilepsy and put on carbamazepam which I was on for years but a reason has never been found. I had seizures roughly 6-12 monthly sometimes hurting myself but they were usually on waking or going to sleep so I’ve been able to work and progress as a neonatal nurse.
However about 2 years ago my brother took his own life quite traumatically. We we’re close and he was great loved by everyone.
January this year I had a seizure on the ward witnessed by all my colleagues, the crash team was called and I was taken to A&E. My sodium level was very low apparently a side effect of carbamazepam. Since then I’ve roughly had a seizure a week often unpredictable and hurting myself. I’m now on 3 anti epileptic’s and feel exhausted constantly. I also rarely leave the house alone. I’m hopeful that they will improve but aware this maybe my new life. This course is a start as I need to start setting goals, and reaching out for support. However I must say I’m getting use to non alcoholic prosecco- always loved a glass of wine but think it’s too risky now. Feels good to share.
