Hi I’m Jacqui, I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was around 9 my father also had epilepsy. My seizures were myoclonic and tonic clonic. With some complex partial seizures. As a youngster I was in total denial of my epilepsy and would not accept that it was a disability. Although I would regularly have seizures which caused physical injury due to where I was and what I was doing. I have had significant episodes of anxiety and depression during my adult life but never associated this with my epilepsy. I have been fully compliant with medication. I have had over 20 years of being free from tonic clonic seizures. I am 60 and my myoclonic jerks have come back with a vengeance and I have had tonic clonic seizures. I’ve lost my driving licence and my world has been turned upside down. I have paid for a private neurology consultation as although referred via NHS have been told the waiting list could be up to 35 weeks.
