learning

This week was really helpful. I am quite literally in the job of my dreams already (started when I was 3 years seizure-free and had only ever had nocturnal ones anyhow). Then daytime ones, dosed to the gills on meds that make my work nearly impossible to manage while seizures are still not well controlled… my managers and colleagues have been nothing but supportive, so I thought I’d sail through this week with nothing to learn. But I realise now how much of my impossible workload I bring upon myself, and that it’s only me being terrified of losing this wonderful part of my life that keeps me from trying for a better work/life balance. I have said no to a few things, but very few in the grand scheme of things. I’ve realised my goal needs to be learning to set a clear line that’s much, much further away from a normal workload than any of my peers, and see what happens. I simply can’t keep up this pace anymore. I’ve known that for a while, but somehow this week’s information gave me a new and much more helpful perspective on it. It’s going to take me a while to figure out how to write up an action plan for it, but I will! Thank you! And I do know how fortunate I am – my heart goes out to you, Anne. Thanks for sharing the bright side of what could happen if it all goes wrong for me at work 🙂
