My name is Anne Maria and I decided to do this course after my ESN sent me the course details. I’m a bit late in starting because of technical issues with this darn computer and with medication changes. I hope to learn lots about epilepsy, the memory difficulties, side effects of medications, anxiety etc etc
I was diagnosed with epilepsy at 8 months of age – way back in 1964 and even though I’ve been living with epilepsy all my life this last 6 years have been a very steep learning curve. I have both Simple and Complex Partial seizures as well as Absences and Photosensitive too
I had a 19yr seizure free life from 1991 when my 2nd son was born to late 2009. I knew little to nothing about focal partial seizures and had no parents around to connect to as to how I was when I was younger. I hope to get better self confidence and lower anxiety levels from doing this course.
I lost my job at a local college in May 2012 because of my epilepsy and this has really dented my confidence. They knew all along I had epilepsy when I joined in 1998 but as they had seen me in my seizure free years they were badly affected by the sudden change of no seizures to frequent ones. They were scared and frightened and had total lack of knowledge of any seizures that were not tonic clonic. Some even tried telling me I didn’t have epilepsy because I was not rolling around on the floor foaming at the mouth !!
