I used to drive, though I didn’t pass my driving test until I was in my 30’s, so I have always been accustomed to using public transport and cycling to get around. I had my first tomic clonic seizure 8 years ago when I was 52. With some reflection I think I may have experienced some partial seizures before this. So I find myself again unable to drive. However I endeavour to use any form of transport I can to get around, including my cycle again.

I prefer to be independent and self reliant, although when asking for a lift/car share, I have a rule of thumb, “if you are going in my direction and it doesn’t put you out your way too much can I ask for a lift with you?” This has worked well for me over the years and like another member here I can show my sppreciation with a small gift. It is also good for the environment to share a car journey means less pollution. If I need to get somewhere I can usually find a way of getting there, it can be fun working things out and making use of time on a long winding bus journey, I call it my mobile office.

I have experienced a number of tonic clonic siezures in the last 8 years, and perhaps many more partial complex siezures, although currently this is more settled the best for a long time. At the moment I accpet that I am unable to drive, I shrug my shoulders and think this is just how it is for now. My life is pretty good, there is an adequate bus service, I live in a small village but it isn’t far from a town with great train travel.

In goal planning I will try and get better and carrying information with me when I am travelling, contact details etc, family, GP, medication just in case. I will prepare something which slots easily into my bag/pocket.
