Hi,
my name is Kate and I decided to join the course after seeing it advertised in the Epilepsy Action magazine, part of the group I’ve been a member of for some time now.
It gradually became apparent me and my doctors that I had epilepsy after I suffered a serious head injury in 1999 after a car accident. It was just before I started University. As part of the denial I experienced as to the severity of my injury I started drinking quite heavily through university and this only did my brain more damage. I experienced ‘petit male’ through Uni which was like panic attacks when I plunged into severe gloom and salvaged. I often had them when I was hung over. I denied it to myself and didn’t make the link then they were related epilepsy. I had my first full blown tonic seizure a few years after that. I started taking medication but despite that, and now having given up alcohol completely, still have them (usually related to stress) now.
I joined this course because I wanted to read about other people’s different experiences of having the condition, as well as adding mine to it too. It’ll be very interesting to read about how it affects other people’s lives, because it certainly does mine now.
