Hi All,
I’m Susan. I’ve had epilepsy for many years now – had my first seizure when I was 19 years old – now 50! A very young 50! My first seizure was a tonic-clonic seizure! Some of my tonic-clonic seizures I don’t getting any warnings at all, while others I do! Over the last year or so I’ve been having ‘events’ feeling very strange. From what I’ve read, think they might be focal seizures and in the eight to nine days I’ve had around 6. After the ‘events’ I have the tiredness, sleepiness & dizziness which I always get after having my tonic-clonics. I’ve been lucky that my epilepsy is for the most part well controlled! I have taken various different epilepsy medications – some have been stopped due to side effects, others due to they didn’t work for me! I believe that my medication affects my learning as I’ve done quite a few courses and received the extra time that I’m due too, I still at times still struggle to finish the the course exam/exams on time!!! Quite often when having to write notes it has been a struggle for me! I have had seizures in my sleep! Most of my seizures seem to happen in the afternoon, evening or night. Stress is a big trigger for my seizures and so is forgetting to take my medication! And maybe lack of sleep and tiredness!
