I was diagnosed with epilepsy in my teens and have been lucky to have spent the majority of my adult life seizure free. My husband and I had been together for over 20 years when my seizures returned which was really scary for him as he had no idea what was happening when I woke him in the night and there was blood all over the pillow (I’d badly bitten my tongue).
All my family and friends have been really supportive and understanding about my epilepsy. The worst bit is losing my licence as I was always one of the drivers when we went out (I had a bigger car and I loved driving!) but my mates have been great – bringing me home after a gym class so my hubby only has to drive one way! I’ve even started seeing more of my brother as he now picks me up every Monday night for the pub quiz which we never did before – even though I can’t help much with the answers due to my memory – names of celebrities or characters are a nightmare so I often try to describe them or the program which can be quite funny!
