Hi. I tried to post here last week and it didn’t work – not sure why.
I am 63 and was diagnosed w epilepsy 6 years ago although it took a couple of years to diagnose.
Even then I might have had it much longer as seizures occur mostly at night.
Not aware they were seizures until started having daytime ones – like ‘absence’ sort but not typical. Even then a year before epilepsy was suggested. Only given a diagnosis when final had a tonic clonic – in middle of night. Luckily husband was there.
My official diagnosis has changed over the years, and always with a ? or equivalent attached. Current diagnosis is ‘focal epilepsy, likely temporal lobe with probably transient epileptic amnesia.’
The drugs do not control it well, or if they do then control doesn’t last so I’ve tried a number and am now on two at the same time.
I also suffer from side effects.
However, I am fortunate to have a loving and suportive husband, and that my epilpesy only started later in life and is not nearly as bad as that of others. The memory loss is significant and led to me resigning from my work before I was diagnosed and I now only do very part-time voluntary work.
