For AEDs to work properly, it is important to take them regularly, at around the same time every day. This ensures that there is a steady supply in your blood.
It’s easy to forget to take your medicine, if you are not having any seizures. However, you could still be at risk of having a seizure if there is not a steady level of epilepsy medicine in your blood.
It’s a good idea to get advice about what you should do if you ever forget to take your medicine. You could speak to your epilepsy specialist, GP or epilepsy nurse about this. The advice they give you will depend on which medicine you are taking and the dose. They will also consider any other medical conditions you have, or medicines you are taking.
If you are sick or have diarrhoea after taking your AEDs, seek advice about what to do from a medical professional.
